The Festival of the Frozen Feather and Quill marks the start of the holiday season in Hiptopia. To welcome Duke Nikolai (the Hiptopian version of Santa Claus), the people of Hiptopia gather in the woods, decked out in their finest vintage, to watch the Great Owl King perch himself upon the Tree of Eternal Obscurity and select a Hipstress of the Snow to rule with him over the festivities. Then, once the Dance of the Falling Branches has been performed for the Owl Court, Duke Nikolai arrives in his bison-drawn carriage and hands out presents, traditionally vintage LPs or plastic-rimmed glasses, to the waiting Hiptopians, who give him PBR and jammie dodgers in exchange for his kindness.
